The mission is the reason that the church exists. Every major decision that affects the congregation should be made with the mission in mind. If we focus on mission, we will have a vibrant and growing community. If we focus on growth and community for their own sake, we will stagnate.
“A mission statement is a statement which is used as a way of communicating the purpose of the organization. Although most of the time it will remain the same for a long period of time, it is not uncommon for organizations to update their mission statement and generally happens when an organization evolves. Mission statements are normally short and simple statements which outline what the organization’s purpose is and are related to the specific sector an organization operates in.” – Wikipedia
A small group was asked to follow up after our church wide Empowered Together visioning exercise and revisit our mission statement. The goal was to find a concise statement that focuses more clearly on what the congregation articulated for the future of WUUC. We shared it with the Board of Directors and now would like to share it more broadly.
We connect and engage in spiritual community to transform one another and to nurture, heal, and transform our world.
We will share it again as part of the upcoming Town Hall meeting on April 24.
