Now that Spring is around the corner, we need to be thinking about the grounds maintenance at WUUC: Cleaning up the ravages of Winter, preparing for the new growing season and maintaining the landscaping until the next Winter.

In the past, this has been done by a group of volunteers known as zoners. The name describes volunteers who agree to maintain specific areas, or zones, of the landscaping. Sometimes it is done in teams or other times alone. Zoners are generally left to maintain their area as they see fit. Appropriateness of new plants, such as size and appearance next to adjoining zones is expected. Guidelines are very general. A small budget is available for new plants. Guidance is available. This service is administered and a part of the Buildings and Grounds Committee.

No committee meetings ever. No deadlines. Work when you want.

We Also Love Indoor People

Buildings and Grounds is also responsible for maintaining our building, both inside and outside, including utility systems.  We just finished painting the interiors of the kitchen, bathrooms, hallways, entrance, library and offices in a series of midweek work parties. The outside of the building will need attention in the near future. As you can see, some expertise is required in these areas. We do have some on the Committee, but more may be appreciated from time to time.

If you are interested in participating in any of the above, please contact John Ringler at If you are interested in viewing the Committee in action, all are welcome at our monthly meetings at 11:30 a.m. on the first Sunday of each month.
