In the last two weeks, WUUC’s Endowment Team has received confirmation from five WUUC members who have named WUUC as a beneficiary in their wills. This is a great start to our campaign to tap into money available from the UUA’s Legacy Challenge. $5 million is available to UU churches nationwide to encourage them to build their Endowments. WUUC’s Endowment Fund is like a savings account for enhancing WUUC’s mission. It can be used to take advantage of opportunities for growth and service or to provide funds for major emergencies. The Legacy Challenge provides funds immediately for WUUC member’s intentions when they name WUUC as a beneficiary in their will, living trust, charitable annuity, life insurance or retirement plan. The Legacy Challenge provides 10% of the gift’s value directly to the church. For example, if you have named WUUC as a beneficiary in your will and the amount is $10,000, the Legacy Challenge will send WUUC a check for $1,000 based on proof that this gift is in your will.
If you have named WUUC as a beneficiary in a will, living trust, charitable annuity, life insurance or retirement plan please contact a member of the WUUC Endowment Team (see below) for details on how WUUC can benefit now.
Of course, you can contribute in many other ways to WUUC’s Endowment Fund. Cash, stocks, mutual fund shares, real estate and other property can also be donated. However these gifts are not eligible for the 10% Legacy Challenge program.
A Legacy Tree is being constructed by members of the congregation which will recognize contributors to WUUC’s Endowment Fund. Anyone participating in the Legacy Challenge (naming WUUC as a beneficiary) will have the opportunity to have a custom made leaf engraved with their name. These leaves will be displayed on the Legacy Tree. In addition, anyone contributing $10,000 to WUUC’s Endowment Fund through gifts of cash, stocks, real estate or property will also have the opportunity to have a leaf on the tree.
The Legacy Tree will be displayed in the foyer on the wall above the communications folder file. Look for the grand unveiling in September.
