This summer’s RE Program for grades 1-8 is called “Getting to Know WUUC.”  Each Sunday, the children will meet with a leader from one of WUUC’s many teams, committees or groups and learn about how our church works and about the outreach we do in the community.

Our first class this summer focused on the Racial Justice Task Force.  Fran Davidson led the group in a discussion, story and songs about what it means to be fair, and why that is important.  The guest in our next class featured Lauren Soliday who spoke to the children about meals for the homeless.  The kids made cards and decorated cookies which were delivered along with a meal to Camp Unity Eastside, a transitional mobile encampment and self-managed outside community.

Other guests in our summer RE program include:  Linda McCrystal from the Cares and Concerns Team, Donna Johnson from Worship, Jim Jasinski from the Board of Trustees, Tom Richards from Buildings and Grounds, Karen Hyams from Membership and Engagement, Lori McConnell from Hospitality and Jessica Belmont from the Search Committee.

We are also beginning a tradition of doing “Children’s Church” quarterly.  Children’s Church is a mini-worship service designed specifically for the children in the RE program.  We will explore the different elements of the worship service, learn some hymns, and get familiar with what it means to be a participant in the focal part of our church’s life.

I am excited about our summer programming and look forward to getting to know the children better as I lead RE this summer and we explore WUUC together. As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me (
