On Aug. 16 and 17, the Minister Search Committee met at the Sprangs‘ house for a retreat with our Transitions Coach,  the Reverend Duane H. Fickeisen. Thank you to Kermit and Marcia for lending us your beautiful house and hosting the retreat. Thank you to Aggie Sweeney for helping to provide food. Thank you also to Revered Fickeisen for your leadership and inspiration.

We had a wonderful, intensive retreat, full of deep discussions, laughter, getting to know each other, and planning. We left the retreat energized and ready to get to work on the Search.

The Committee has selected Kermit Sprang to be the Chair of the Minister Search Committee. The other Search Committee members are Jessica Belmont, Jack Brand, Lori McConnell, Leslie Morton,  Emma Rockenbeck, and Aggie Sweeney.

Over the course of the next three months, we will engage with the whole congregation for focused input and discussion about our needs as a church, to guide us in our Search. Expect to see invitations to participate in a survey questionnaire, and also for small “cottage meetings.”  These meetings will be in someone’s home or at WUUC (there will be several) and will be facilitated by a Search Committee member. These meetings and the survey are two critical ways that you can help us get a comprehensive picture of WUUC with regard to our needs and desires for a minister. Our goal is to make sure all of your voices are heard. In addition, likely in November, there will be a “Beyond Categorical Thinking” workshop and sermon, which will also help inform us as a church and a Search Committee on some best practices for this process.

Keep a lookout for more information regarding these next important steps.

Thank you to the whole congregation for your support thus far. We are excited to get to work!

Sincerely,

Emma Rockenbeck, Minister Search Committee Communications Lead
