My Accidental Zen Journey

August 5, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

– Janet Putnam, WUUC Member
“Zen Buddhism speaks to liberation, to fully realizing and freely living this journey wherever we are, however we are, in whatever circumstances we find ourselves, including relationships, family life and work.” – Wendy Egyoku Nakao

Twelve years ago I joined our meditation group for stress relief and instead ended up on an accidental journey into Zen practice.  I will share some of the challenges I faced, what drew me toward deeper practice, and a few brief meditation practices I find helpful.

Janet Putnam, a member of WUUC, received the sixteen Bodhisattvata precepts from her teacher, James Myoun Ford, Roshi, in a Jukai ceremony in July, 2017.  She practices at WUUC with Bright Cloud Zen, an affiliate of Blue Cliff Zen Sangha.  This group and its sister group at University Unitarian Church in Seattle are supported by WUUC member Janine Larsen, a Dharma Teacher with Blue Cliff Zen Sangha who is preparing for ordination as a Zen priest.
