Totes to Go
A new year has started and we can be pleased with the work we’ve done in supporting the Totes to Go program throughout 2024. Totes provides food for weekends when school meals aren’t available to students. We know that hungry kids can’t learn well, so we help to ensure weekend nutrition for kids who are at risk of missing meals. We deliver items each month throughout the school year.
We have a number of “scheduled” donors who have signed up to bring the same items each month. Sometime after the 15th of the month, I send out a message listing the items we still need. Want to help? Watch for those e-mails and pick up some items we need. Or you might choose to make a financial contribution (WUUC with Totes on the memo line or envelope). Also, usually on the last Sunday of the month, I can use help loading everything into my car.
Questions or comments? See me, Grace Simons or John Hartman, co-coordinators.

Justice & Service - Sunday January 19
This month’s collection goes to Lambert House. Since 1981 the Lambert House LGBTQ Youth Center has cared for, championed, and celebrated over 15,000 individual minors and young adults through over 500,000 service contacts. Long known as Seattle’s LGBTQ youth center, Lambert House is the only social service agency in Seattle and King County, WA, (Pop. 2.25 million) dedicated solely to LGBTQ+ youth. Its programs also draw youth nationally and internationally.
The ASJ Committee thanks WUUC members and friends for their generous support of our monthly special collections, which take place during services on the third Sunday of every month (including, January 19th). Instructions for giving are posted during the service, and you can also donate anytime at https://onrealm.org/wuuc/give/asjts, or by sending a check to WUUC at P.O. Box 111, Woodinville, WA 98072. Please make checks out to WUUC and write “ASJ Special Collection” in the notes. Visit wuuc.org/collection.

Continuing Zoom & Hybrid Events

Dear WUUC, The pandemic has been hard on all of us. Engaging with our shared community is more important than ever. To that end, we encourage all folks who plan, develop, or coordinate WUUC events to carefully consider including people who may not be able to participate in person by offering hybrid or online options whenever possible. Training and/or help with setting up virtual/hybrid events is available. Please contact May Killorin, Office Administrator, for assistance.

1/5 - Building the World We Dream About (BWWDA)
By Participants and Facilitators in BWWDA
As UUs, we want to build the multicultural world of beloved community that we dream about. The Building the World We Dream About program offered this past fall at WUUC, sought to interrupt the workings of systemic racism and transform how people from different racial and ethnic groups understand and relate to one another. Our group created space for open conversations to better understand our own ethnic and racial identities and journeys as well as develop practical skills we all need to navigate an increasingly multicultural world. At this service participants and facilitators will share insights and learnings as well as content inspired from the program curriculum and experiences.

1/12 - Hope? Really?
Our culture leads us to be suspicious of other people and expect them to be uncaring and self-seeking. Several current authors say that’s off-base and harmful. What’s more, we can do some things to resist.

Reverend Grace Simons Bio: Rev Grace Simons is Minister Emerita of the UU Fellowship of Stanislaus County (CA), and also served High Country UU Fellowship in Frisco, CO. 1/26 - Practice The Practice
By Reverend Deanna Vandiver
Together we can learn to care and how to care, making the web of life and love tangible and well-tended as part of our spiritual practice and ever unfolding faith formation.
Rev. Deanna Vandiver (she/they), lives with her partner on the land of the Coastal Salish people known as the Suquamish, “the people of the clear salt water" and is an auntie to many beloveds across an ever-increasing span of generations. Deeply grateful to the People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond (pisab.org) for shaping their core understandings of how systemic racism dehumanizes all of us, Deanna finds sustaining joy by the water and magical possibilities in every glue stick, garden, and collaboration. Deanna serves as Director of the UU College of Social Justice and Director of Justice Education for the UUSC.
