Totes to Go Is Starting Up
August is here and that means a new school year is about to begin. Totes to Go is a program that provides weekend food for students who are at risk of missing meals when school food programs aren’t available. WUUC participates by providing supplies for 15 of those students at Maywood Hills School in Bothell. Our church has been part of the Totes program for many years. We have a list of items that we collect all through one month and deliver at the beginning of the next. So, the items we collect in August will be delivered at the beginning of September. How does this work and how can you help? We have regular donors who...

Structured Dialogue with R&R - Sunday, August 4
You’re invited to participate in a Structured Dialogue offered by R&R after the service on August 4th!

The UU General Assembly that just ended resulted in a decision about Article II of the Association’s by-laws that has been controversial among us. R&R hopes that a Structured Dialogue will bring us to a better understanding about what experiences led us to our opinion and what importance it has for us. Lunch will be provided. You need to sign up ahead. We can include up to 20 people in this session. If more are interested, we’ll try to arrange another session. Signup here.
Questions or concerns? Contact R&R: Dave Blomberg, Hilarie Cash, Lori McConnell & Grace Simons. Jane Flood is away.

Post-Potluck All-Ages Drum Circle - Sunday, August 25
Come at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 25 or drift over from the potluck and get into the flow of some seriously joyful rhythm-making at the far side of the Sanctuary. A variety of hand drums will be provided, but you are beyond welcome to bring your own. There will also be small percussion provided—shakers, tambourines, even a cowbell. You needn't have drummed before! Such instruction as people need will be provided—but mostly, we will play. If you are an instrumentalist and would like to jam against a heavy drum rhythm, bring your instrument. Hint: It takes a rather loud, high-pitched instrument to cut through drums. For more information, call Barbara Brachtl.

To that end, we encourage all folks who plan, develop, or coordinate WUUC events to carefully consider including people who may not be able to participate in person by offering hybrid or online options whenever possible. Training and/or help with setting up virtual/hybrid events is available. Please contact May Killorin, Office Administrator, for assistance.

08/04 - Tidbits for Staying Cool Derived from Buddhism
Buddhism is a complex and multifaceted religion. In the limited time we have for today’s service, we will not attempt to teach Buddhism to you, nor will we go into sufficient depth to provide you with any true appreciation for its nuances and beauty. Instead, we have tried to identify some basic Buddhist concepts that suggest ways for us to maintain our cool during this summer of intense heat and polarized political and social disagreement.
