Theme:
Living with Intention
Compiled by Linda Sherry Worship Support Specialist “Here’s what I discovered. Intention is different from setting goals or resolutions in that Intention “pulls us into” who we truly are. Goals and resolutions “push us out” into future possibilities. To set intentions, we must listen to our inner voice which tells us who we truly are.” -- Katie Covey, Soul Matters Director of RE Resources

Intentional Ponderings
By Linda Sherry Soul Matters used to title each month’s topic with the question, “What does it mean to be a Community of ____________?”. Then fill in the blank with the theme. So my question is “What does it mean for WUUC to be a community that is Living With Intention?”

Each New Day, 1/2
– Reverend Amy Beltaine On Christmas morning we imagine the holy family basking in joy and awe with the newborn babe, grateful for all their gifts. Yet, as the wise men impart, all is not “happily ever after.” We may hope that the new year will mean a new world, but in real life, we wake up the next morning, and face the next day, the litter, post-holiday exhaustion, and credit-card debt. How can we remain grateful for our gifts while facing the forces which sometimes seem to overwhelm with danger and hardship? Let us gather to rest into the healing embrace of our beloved community and take the space to reflect upon how each of us may go forward from here.

Know Thyself, 1/9
– Rev. Dan Lillie Our monthly worship theme for January is “Living with Intention”, which is harder to do if we do not know ourselves well. Let’s consider how our self-understanding shapes our motivations and the way we live our lives.

Prayer, 1/16
– Rev. Dan Lillie Prayer is a powerful spiritual practice, but not because it the way to get an all-powerful deity to intervene in our lives and fix everything for us. Instead, the transformative power of prayer is in naming our intentions and putting them out into the universe.

Letting Go, 1/23
– Rev. Dan Lillie Living with intention can help us live more purposeful and fulfilling lives, but when we hold on too tightly to intentions that either no longer serve us or that are beyond our control, then they can hold us back. Sometimes living with intention means holding our intentions lightly and knowing when to let go.
