February 2023 Theme: Love
Passage from Soul Matters February 2023 Theme: Love Welcome to the Path of Love The path of love. It began from the beginning, for most of us. Came in the form of family. A bloodline that brought us into being, and at its best, allowed us to bloom. Then sent us on our way with courage, and a reminder tucked …

The Wisdom of Groundhog Day
Greetings WUUC Community,
Every year on February 2, Punxsutawney Phil (a groundhog) comes out of his borrow in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. If he sees his shadow, it means six more weeks of winter. (This year, Phil did see his shadow, so we can expect six more weeks of winter.)
This silly tradition of having a celebrity groundhog determine the length of the season is, well, silly. But it has a special place in my heart. As a kid, I would watch the movie Goundhog Day over and over again. I’ve lost track of how many times I have seen it. In the movie, Bill Murray plays a news reporter covering Punxsutawney Phil’s appearance and prediction for winter one year. But when he goes to bed, he wakes up and it’s the same day (Groundhog Day) over and over again. (As a kid, I didn’t realize the irony at the time of repeatedly watching a movie that was about repeating). I found it so fascinating to see the same person live the same day over and over again, but in so many ways...

February 2023 Notes from the Board
What do you actually do at Board meetings? That’s a question I’ve heard more than once, so I thought it might be helpful to write a short note each month to let you know what we are up to. First, a reminder of who is on the Board this year: myself (President), Jan Radoslovich (Vice-President and lead on the Ministry …

2/5 - The Narcissism of Small Differences
- Reverend Dan Lillie
Sigmund Freud observed a tendency in relationships and communities, that the more they have in common, the more divided they are prone to become over relatively small differences. When Unitarian Universalists discuss our values, there is much we agree about; but because of the narcissism of small differences, we tend to view the things we disagree about as bigger conflicts than they have to be. Can our awareness of this tendency lead us to a more proportionate response and a healthier way of approaching conflict?

2/12 - Why Love?
- Reverend Dan Lillie
Love is such a big and important idea...abd actually, it's more of a feeling than an idea. Maybe that's why it's easier to know what love feels like than it is to describe it. Sometimes words just seem insufficient; but for this service, I'll try to find some words that point at what love is and why we love.
