Save the Date: Rev. Dan’s Installation – Sunday, May 19th, 2024
|
|
The installation of our minister, Rev. Dan Lillie is the congregational act of formally entering into a shared ministry with our professional minister. The installation service/ceremony formally celebrates this covenantal relationship and the joy that both parties feel in having “found each other” and willingly committing to this shared ministry together. The installation service/ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. PDT at the Bear Creek United Methodist Church on Avondale Road. Following the service, a reception will be held from 4:30-6:00 p.m. PDT. The Installation Planning Team is now well underway in its planning for this important event in the life of our congregation. Children’s Service Project: PAWS Animal Shelter
|
|
|
The children of WUUC chose to support PAWS Animal Shelter through a service project this month. You will see a donation bin in the Lobby starting April 14. Please bring pet food and toys to donate. The children will lead a pet toy-making activity on April 28 in conjunction with the monthly potluck. We hope you will stay after the service and learn from our children how to make a pet toy out of felt! The toys you create will be donated to PAWS.

Super Seniors is a group for WUUCs age 77 and above. We meet every 1st Wed of the month for a potluck lunch at noon at the church. If you meet the age criteria we would love to have you join us for good food and good chatting.

A Town Hall will be held on Sunday, April 14 immediately after the service to answer questions about the proposed Bylaws updates, learn about the delegate’s interest in attending GA, and have the opportunity to dialogue with the Board re: any other church-related topics of interest.

- Dottie Simpson Monday Morning Sister Circle is a WUUC group which typically meets in the WUUC Library on the second Monday of the month but this month we will meet on the 3rd Monday because of the rummage sale setup. We meet to discuss a person of interest or an essay of interest every month. We have recently discussed women philosophers, women of action, NPR essays, spiritual essays, etc. The group is open to any woman at WUUC and we would love to have any interested woman join us. Every individual is on a religious journey. Our UU church, as a spiritual community, encourages each of us to examine our own spiritual journey, to articulate our own credo (Latin for “I believe), and to grow in our ability to discover and clearly understand our own belief systems. In this service we’ll help you examine your values and beliefs about God or ultimate reality, human nature, ethics, and the meaning and purpose of life.

Chuck Bean has been a Unitarian Universalist for 50 years and a member of WUUC for 30 years. He’s been a facilitator for the UU curriculum course “Build Your Own Theology” here at WUUC for the past 20+ years.

4/21 - Give Mysticism a Chance

|
A celebration and exploration of mysticism and the first of the UU sources: “Direct experience of that transcending mystery and wonder, affirmed in all cultures, which moves us to a renewal of the spirit and an openness to the forces which create and uphold life.”
|
The Rev. José Roberto (Berto) Gándara Perea is a native of Puerto Rico and speaks Spanish, English, and French. He has been a priest for 31 years, serving 9 years in the Dominican Republic, a year in Belgium, two years in Spain, six years in Puerto Rico, and seven years in New York City as a mental health counselor in an HIV-AIDS agency in Harlem and as a priest in a church also in Harlem. Berto has a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and a master’s in theology. He also obtained four other post-master’s degrees from universities in Belgium, Spain, and New York. He shares his life with his spouse, the Rev. Hugh McPhail Grant, from Atlanta, Georgia, who is also an Episcopal priest and a psychotherapist. Berto has been the Rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Orcas Island for the last 10 years.
