As history recycles itself, we can gain insights as to what to believe and what to laugh off. In these trying days when you can’t put any faith in what our leaders are saying, do not despair. Our gains are not going to be lost. What helping destitute children go to school in Nepal has taught me is that modeling authenticity and giving of yourself serves not one, but many, in extraordinary ways.

Earle Canfield is UU and a physician assistant who found his passion when he served in a hospital for indigent, handicapped children in Nepal in 1994. At the age of 52 he retired to devote his life to educating indigent children in Nepal and have them take up careers that would serve their country: a hundred doctors, lawyers, nurses, lawyers, business leaders have emerged, with another 700 in the pipeline, sponsored almost entirely by UU members from congregations all across the USA.
