Building the World We Dream About is an adult Lifelong Learning program that will be offered this fall at WUUC as four half-day workshops. The series will provide the opportunity for our community to engage with the tangled knot of privilege, oppression, and identity within a sacred, covenantal space held by experienced facilitators. Everyone is invited to participate.

  • Have you wondered how to help WUUC become more welcoming and inclusive across diverse ethnicities, races and cultures?
  • What positive impact could this have within our congregation and when working in interfaith and community coalitions?
  • Are you curious about the concepts of identity and difference? What do people mean when they talk about having privilege based on identity?
  • Would you like to learn with other UUs who are invested in acquiring and practicing skills that will enhance our ability to engage in multicultural dialogue and relationships?

As Unitarian Universalists, we want to build the multicultural world of beloved community that we dream about. The Building the World We Dream About program seeks to interrupt the workings of systemic racism and transform how people from different racial and ethnic groups understand and relate to one another. The curriculum was developed by Dr. Mark Hicks, an educator, musician, and advocate for social change. Together with skilled facilitators, using multi-sensory activities, we will create space for open conversations to better understand our own ethnic and racial identities and journeys and develop practical skills we all need to navigate an increasingly multicultural world.

Building the World We Dream About will be offered as four workshops that cover two sessions each. All workshops will be held at WUUC on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Childcare will be provided on request.
