Imbolc [s]

February 10, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The Wheel of the Year has turned, and as winter nears an end, the first signs of life begin to return to the earth. Days grow longer, plant and animal life begins to reappear, and we look to the goddess for reminders of the magic that she and we have been cultivating for the season of fire that will soon be here.

The word Imbolc comes from the Celtic word for “ewe’s milk.” It marks the time of year when the first lambs are born, signaling the coming change of season

Imbolc is also the feast of Brigid, the Celtic goddess of hearth and smith. She is the guardian of the wells of sacred wisdom, and keeper of life’s creative flame. We honor her by celebrating points of light in winter – the divine energy reflected in each of us.

This year’s ritual will celebrate the three faces of the goddess – maiden, mother, and crone. The morning sermon will explore the ritual magic, using the evening circle as an example.

Join WUUC’s Earth-based and Pagan community Sunday, Feb. 3, from 7-8:30 p.m., as we seek energy and inspiration for the coming season.
