If you or anyone you know has been looking for a scouting-type activity for your 1-7th grade age child, read on.
Navigators USA is an inclusive scouting organization that was started over a decade ago by members of a New York UU church. Since then the organization has grown to more than 100 chapters. WUUC sponsors chapter 50, which was started 4 years ago. Our group is made up of both WUUC members and families from the wider community and we welcome new member. The fall is a great time to join our group. You can find out more about our local chapter, including age groupings and meeting frequency, at https://navigatorswoodinville.shutterfly.com/aboutus.
We’ll be having our kick-off meeting on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 2-3:30 p.m. at WUUC. We meet in the portables and by the fire pit, this time, to roast an afternoon snack.
We also have a camp out planned for Oct. 1-2 at Tolt McDonald park in Carnation.
Other activities we’ve done in the past include hiking, geocaching, visiting a stream to look for spawning salmon, learning about the food web, ice skating, learning about our local ecosystem, rock climbing, knot tying, outdoor cooking, camping twice a year, and fire building…to name some of it. Our dues are $60/year per child plus some additional expenses for outings occasionally. Thanks to the generosity of WUUC members at a special collection, we have a scholarship fund so everyone can participate regardless of finances.
If you’d like to join us (even just to visit a meeting) email me at pamgree@hotmail.com or chapter50@navigatorsusa.org and let me know. Feel free to pass this info on to friends and family who may be interested as well.
