Building Community to Support Change
July 24, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

– Hilarie Cash
However Long the Night is the biography of an American woman who moved to Senegal in the 70s and started an educational organization called Tostan. She and her volunteers go into villages where they create a school for adults and teach those who wish to come about reading, writing, health and human rights. They have been wildly successful in convincing communities, through respectful, community centered education, to end female genital cutting (fgc). I have been inspired by her story. It requires whole communities coming together to support change here, in the US, too. At WUUC we have a community where we can build that support for changes we want to see. I will use the example of screen use rules in families as an example of what I am talking about.
