“Though Poppies Grow in Flanders Fields,” a Time of Remembrance and Reflection [s]

November 11, 2018 @ 7:15 pm - 8:30 pm

From “In Flanders Fields,” by Lt. Col. John McCrae, MD

You are invited to share a few minutes of silence on the evening of Sunday, November 11th — starting at 7:15 pm — to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I and to honor the memory of those consumed by that conflict.   We will plan to end the time of reflection and sharing at 8:30 p.m. or earlier.

After that time for meditation, those attending will be invited to share any family stories about experiences of soldiers, nurses, relief workers or others involved in World War I and its aftermath.

If you have family photographs from the period, we will have a place to display them.

Finally, we’ll share some of the major social changes, music, and poetry associated with what was then called the “War to End All Wars” and the “War to Make the World Safe for Democracy.”
