WUUC Nonfiction Book Club [os]
February 26, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Have a Barnes & Noble gift card burning a hole in your pocket? Got a new e-reader for Christmas and not sure what to read on it? Why not try a book recommended by Lane Owsley: Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari and Eric Klinenberg?
Join us on Friday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. for a meeting of the WUUC Nonfiction Book Group. (Attendance at previous meetings of the book group not required.) This book lends itself to a discussion involving a variety of voices from different generations, so whether you’re in your 20’s or your 80’s we’d love to have you chime in!
Aziz Ansari is a comedian and Eric Klinenberg is a sociologist. Together they report on how people meet, date, and marry in modern times–and how they used to just a generation or two ago. (Spoiler alert: it’s different now!) Learn fascinating statistics like how many people used to marry someone living on their street, what percentage of couples meet online, and whether the intersection of technology and romance makes people happier or not. Together, Ansari and Klinenberg find the right balance of humor and research for a topic that interests most of us.
Four times a year, the WUUC Book Club gathers to read and discuss a nonfiction book. You only attend the meetings about books that interest you, so we end up with a different group of participants every time. We meet on a Friday evening to connect, share a meal, and talk about a book in depth. Anyone is welcome to suggest a book and/or lead a discussion. Contact Alaine <alaine.davis@yahoo.com> to RSVP, suggest a book, or offer to host a future discussion.
