PWYW Gift and Craft Fair [S,L]

December 13, 2015 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

It’s back! Our second pay-what-you-will gift is coming up. It is a chance for us to share our gifts with one another and maybe even put a little money in our pockets. The entire event will be pay-what-you-will, where customers pay what they think is a fair price.

Please let me know if you are thinking of participating.

How will pay-what-you will work?

First, let me tell you why you should consider it:

  • It generally averages out that people pay more than the artist would have charged.
  • You will probably sell more.
  • You don’t have to worry about pricing, although you should have a number in mind if people ask for suggestions. (I would suggest a range of prices, but that’s just me.)
  • It’s a great way to determine the market value of what you make.
  • You will have the opportunity to walk away from your table to do some shopping for yourself.
  • It’s super easy
  • It will reduce the need for making
  • change and paperwork
  • It’s so UU!

If you want to know more about pay-what-you-will or the sharing/gift economy, check outhttp://theabundantartist.com/pay-what-you-will-pricing/ orhttp://sacred-economics.com/. I’m pretty excited to try this out.

FAQ

What should I sell?
If you can make it and someone can give it as a gift, we’d love to see you offering it. Everyone thinks of jewelry and knitting and other crafty things, but homemade food gifts are great, too. You can make sweets like candy, spiced nuts, quick bread mixes, baked goods that keep well like biscotti, or some of that jam and pickles you’ve been putting up. Holiday gift tags, bows and wreaths, wrapping paper and note cards are fun holiday things to make and buy. And of course candles and soaps and whatnot. I think we’d better avoid scented things.

What will WUUC provide?
You get one of the white, 6’ tables, plus all of the pr we’re doing. We have some portable displays for hanging 2D work, you’ll need to arrange that with Karen Hyams (khyams@wuuc.org). You might want to bring a tablecloth to dress up your table.

How much will it cost?
It’s pay-what-you-will for VAM, too! This will be our only income for the year. If we were using a conventional model we’d charge vendors a percentage of your sales, but we’re not even going to figure out what that percentage should be. I’m sure it will all work out. Pay VAC what you will.

How will we handle sales?
Vendors will handle all sales of their own work. If you have the ability to take credit cards, great, but I want shoppers to assume it will be cash or check.
